Operative words

a person who violates any provision of this act or rules promulgated under this act is guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not less than $250.00 or more than $2,500.00 or by imprisonment for not more than 90 days, or both.

Penalty

Misdemeanor: fine $250 to $2,500, imprisonment up to 90 days, or both; felony for knowing violations of sec. 5101(1)(b) or (l)

What it required

Attached a criminal penalty to every violation of the Food Law and its rules, including the incorporated Food Code sanitation and employee-health standards, and required the court to assess the costs of the department's investigation against a convicted defendant (subsection (3)).
