Operative words
Effective March 23rd, 2020, as part of a unified response, I request all hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers suspend all elective and non-urgent procedures and surgeries. Elective and non-urgent procedures and surgeries are defined as any procedure or surgery that if not done within the next 4 weeks would not cause harm to the patient. Beginning today, March 20th, hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers should institute an explicit, real-time review of all non-time sensitive procedures and surgeries.
Enforcement
Direction of the licensing Secretary framed as a request; 'we are committed to reviewing this recommendation on a weekly basis'
Notes
Also asks ambulatory surgery centers to engage local hospital partners on supply and equipment sharing.
