2020: Postponed March 13, 2020 to September 14: 'Governor Charlie Baker declared a state of emergency on March 10, 2020. In consideration of this and guided by Boston Mayor Martin Walsh along with state and municipal government leaders...' (Ex. SEC-21-GM-029); cancelled as a road race May 28, 2020 'following Boston Mayor Martin Walsh's cancellation of the marathon as a mass participation road running event due to the COVID-19 pandemic' and run virtually September 7-14 (Ex. SEC-21-GM-030). 2021: Not held in April 2021 (announced October 28, 2020, Ex. SEC-21-GM-031); run October 11, 2021 with a field reduced to 20,000 (Wikipedia); Massachusetts gathering orders 13, 38, 44 and 46 (Exs. MA-008, MA-020, MA-024, MA-026) and the Phase IV timing (Order 69 ending restrictions May 29, 2021, Ex. MA-048) fixed the calendar. Usual dates: Patriots' Day (third Monday of April). Scale: More than 30,000 official participants including more than 7,600 runners from 118 countries; 'more than $200 million into the Boston economy' (B.A.A., April 4, 2019, as captured); about 500,000 spectators (Wikipedia).
