Operative words

Starting with the second six weeks of the 2020-2021 school year, HISD families will be required to select either in-person or virtual instruction for students. The first day of the second six weeks is October 19. Parents will have from Monday, September 21, through Friday, September 25, to make their selection through the HISD Connect Parent Portal

HISD opened 2020-21 virtually on Sept. 8, 2020 under the Harris County health authority's order (MET-HOU-038) until that order was rescinded; in-person instruction began Oct. 19, 2020 for those who elected it.
