Recommended routine infection prevention and control (IPC) practices during the COVID-19 pandemic: CDC recommends using additional infection prevention and control practices during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with standard practices recommended as a part of routine healthcare delivery to all patients.... Penalty
none in the guidance; CMS conditions of participation supply the sanction for participating providers
What it required
Recommendation: universal source control for everyone in a healthcare facility, screening of everyone entering, physical distancing, eye protection and respirators for care of suspected or confirmed cases, telehealth where possible. CMS made the recommendations enforceable for participating providers through the infection-control survey (QSO-20-20, Ex. FED-099), the nursing-home memoranda that direct facilities to CDC's IPC recommendations (QSO-20-14-NH, Ex. FED-097) and the testing rule's return-to-work parameters (QSO-20-38-NH, Ex. FED-168: 'follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines'). Character as recorded: agency_guidance_recommendation ('recommends'; 'should'), incorporated by reference in CMS survey memoranda.
